Pia's Story

Lapito is a footwear brand for dapper little feet. The name lapito is a combination of Pia and her two siblings. It symbolizes family, first steps and childhood memories. Lara, Pia and Toby make up Lapito.

Designed by Pia Nowland (the blondie in the middle), Lapito is an exciting range of footwear for infants and toddlers. Pia travelled the world to chase her dream in becoming a shoe designer. In 2011 Pia gave up her career as a Journalist and moved to Italy to complete a shoe design course at Polimoda, an International Institute of Fashion Design based in Florence. Eager to learn more, Pia then graduated in a custom made footwear course at Tafe SA in South Australia. A blog with images of her previous work can be found here. After dedicating long hours into researching and prototyping, Pia saw a gap in the market and developed the brand Lapito - a niche in trendy and comfortable footwear for toddlers and infants.

After investing in an industrial sewing machine Pia began making soft sole leather shoes as gifts for baby showers and weddings; something unique and handmade. The demand started to grow until she could no longer keep up with the orders. With five different styles of soft soles, and a size range of shoe lasts, Pia flew to Bali for three weeks and started to source someone to help her make them.

Each pair is carefully handcrafted in Bali and Vietnam using 100% leather, ensuring the finest finishes and detail in every handmade pair. We hope you love them as much as we do. xx
